A two bedroom detached house in the conservation area of the town centre of Clare, Suffolk.
The timber clad walls and agricultural door of this house were designed to resemble a barn that had occupied the plot in the past. A double height garden hall, filled with daylight from a glazed atrium and double doors to the patio, is straddled by a bridge linking the two ensuite bedrooms, while below an open-plan kitchen-diner and separate living room provide a flexible space for both private and social use.
Natural materials such as lime render, rainwater harvesting, underfloor heating, mechanical heat recovery ventilation, triple glazed windows and doors and A+ rated appliances make the house a pleasure to spend time in while saving on running costs.
